International High School Essay Contest — Overview

The Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. invites high school students to submit an original essay in response to this year’s topic.

2025 Essay Topic: "In a World Powered by Artificial Intelligence, What Does it Mean to Lead with Integrity and Purpose?"

Essays must be the student’s original work and will be judged on clarity of thought, organization, grammar, and alignment with the topic.

Eligibility

  • Open to current high school students (grades 9–12).
  • Submission must be the student’s original work.
  • Only one entry per student.
  • Meet word count and submission requirements listed below.
  • Student must fill out and submit rules and release forms Download Forms
  • Completed essay and forms must be emailed to admin@deltaphiques.org

Essay Requirements

  • Word count: 700–750 words (not including title or references).
  • Format: Typed, double-spaced, 12-pt font, standard margins.
  • Identification: Include your full name, school, grade, email, and phone on a cover page only.
  • Citations: Use a standard citation style when quoting sources.
  • File type: PDF or DOC/DOCX (PDF preferred).

Note: Use of assistance software and/or technology (i.e. AI) in creating this original work is strictly prohibited. The Committee will be using software to detect the usage of Artificial Intelligence to assist with the essay. If the content is found to be above a 40% threshold the essay will be disqualified.

Judging Criteria

  • Understanding of Topic – Addresses all parts of the prompt.
  • Originality & Insight – Thoughtful, compelling, and authentic viewpoint.
  • Organization – Clear structure with logical flow.
  • Grammar & Mechanics – Proper usage, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Support & Evidence – Relevant examples and/or research where appropriate.

Awards

Awards may be presented at Chapter, District, and International levels.

  • Local Chapter Level: 1st Place Award - $150, 2nd Place Award - $100, 3rd Place Award - $50
  • District Level: Top chapter winners advance for additional awards.
  • International Level: District winners advance for top prizes.
    • 1st Place Award - $5000
    • 2nd Place Award - $3000
    • 3rd Place Award - $2000
    • 4th Place Award - $1000

  • Awards/Recognition  Omega Psi Phi Achievement Week Banquet - Nov. 14th, 2025

How to Submit

  1. Prepare your essay according to the requirements above.
  2. Complete and sign the required release forms (below).
  3. Submit to: admin@deltaphiques.org
  4. Include your cover page with contact/school info (not counted in word total).

Ensure your file is named “LastName_FirstName_Essay.pdf”.

Required Release Forms

The following releases must be completed and submitted with your essay (see the PDF packet for the official forms):

  • Parent/Guardian Permission & Copyright Waiver
  • Media Release (permission to publish name, photo, and/or essay excerpts)
  • Certification of Originality (affirming the essay is the student’s own work)
